Slapstick

Born in 1977 in the suburb of Paris, Benjamin Robert aka Slapstick came to electronic music in the early 90's.

At this time, he was listening to hardcore from Brooklyn, Rotterdam or Den Hag Influenced by artists like Lenny Dee with his famous label Industrial Strength, he started to collect records to create mixtapes and spent most of his free time in Bastille shops looking for brand new stuff.

But after a while, he became a bit bored by mixing and wanted to create his own sound. So, he got his first sampler synth in 1993, which was a monoreal machine able to record at least 20 seconds in a quite low-fi style, and he used a basic mixer to put 8 channels on tape.

His first computer was a C64 with trackers, but he left it for hardware midi machines. He used to record sounds outdoors in various places and weird landscapes such as forest at night, caves, tunnels or frozen swamps. Those precious takes were analyzed, sliced, reversed, compressed, expanded and submitted to several distortions and various effects before being used in compositions.

Today, Slapstick signed his 2 first releases with Frederic De Carvalho on Absolut Freak Records, with remixes by Zoo Brazil, Lady B, Expander and Electroluxe Family.
